ATO

It’s time to apply if you have not already

If you’re a director or alternate director of a company and haven’t applied for a director identification number (director ID) it is time to do so.
You need to apply for a director ID when you’re a director or alternate director of an Australian company, registered Australian body or an Australian registered foreign company.

What do I need to do?

Apply for a director ID now. The fastest way to do this is online using the myGovID app to log in to ABRS online. Please note, you must apply for a director ID yourself. No one can apply for you on your behalf as your director ID is linked to your identity. If you have recently applied for your director ID, you do not need to do anything else.

What happens if I don’t apply?

Penalties may apply if you don’t apply for your director ID on time. ATO will consider your personal circumstances when deciding what action to take.

Want more information?

A director ID is a unique number that identifies you as a director of an Australian company, registered Australian body or Australian registered foreign company. You can find more information about who needs a director ID at abrs.gov.au/DirectorID
